WE GET A good group of commenters here in Sticksville. Lately, we've been hearing quite a bit from a young woman from the Prairies, who has an openminded attitude toward Canadian shows, and an engaged and passionate way of defending them. On the subject of all the changes going on at the CBC, I think she's expressed the necessary corrective point of view better than Richard Stursberg, Kirstine Leyfield, or anybody else at the public broadcaster has managed to do. So I'm bumping her comment here

A new survey of TV viewers worldwide reveals ominous trends for networks but -- paradoxically -- encouraging news for content creators such as producers, directors and writers. Consulting firm Accenture, which published the survey Monday, found that viewers are very loyal to their favorite shows, much more so than to the branded networks that provide them. via Variety]
Small Business Owners More Pessimistic

Optimism among small business owners is the lowest it has been in 28 years. The Small Business Economic Trends report released by the National Federation of Independent Business said that Small Business Optimism fell 3.3 points, the lowest since the second quarter of 1980. Much of the problem seems to be the fear of a recession. Only three percent of businesses said they were planning to expand their staff, down from 11 percent in February and only five percent said now is a good time to expan
